World of Warcraft Will Now Allow You To Use In-Game Gold To Buy Subscription Time

For years now, people have been clamoring for an alternative way to play World of Warcraft. Some have called for free-to-play, others have called for Blizzard to copy games such EVE Online to bring in a PLEX type system that allows players to trade in-game currency for game time. It appears Blizzard has listened, and you'll now be able to purchase in game time with gold within World of Warcraft!

So, how does the system work you might ask? Well, players who normally would want to purchase gold, can now buy in-game time tokens called WoW Tokens from the game's store. Once they purchase these tokens, they can then either put them up on the auction house for other players to purchase, or consume them for 30 days game time. Acting pretty much like EVE Online's PLEX system, or  Wildstar's C.R.E.D.D. system, players can now bypass gold sellers to purchase gold. Blizzard hasn't noted any final pricing for WoW Tokens, and they are currently not available for purchase.
Overall, I feel as if this is a good and bad thing for World of Warcraft. In regards to people who normally buy gold, this will be more of a secure system for them to do so. If you don't have enough money to always keep your subscription active, this will give you another route to keep playing the game. However, time and time again this type of system creates inflation within a games economy, which might turn of some players long term. Whether or not this system will be wildly successful within World of Warcraft, we will just have to wait and see. Regardless, I know I'll be taking advantage of it!
